SWINDON TOWN - SATURDAY 15/12/07

IMAGES

Financial trouble at the County Ground meant that there was a possibility that this could be Swindons last game. It was also the final away match before Christmas, and a combination of these two factors meant that the Crocs decided to attend this match in order to pay homage to the club that launched Glen Hoddles managerial career, and gave us such legendary players as Danny Invincible.
Mode of Transport: Tom Witham traveled from Portsmouth with Sam Upton in his possession, while McCarthy made the short journey from his abode in Cheltenham
Team: Mr Wilkins went with a 4-4-2 line up of: Kuipers, Whing, El-Abd, Lynch, Richards; Fraser, Hammond, O'Callaghan, Robinson; Savage, Forster
Kit: Swindon wore their home uniforms of all red, while the Seagulls combined there home jerseys of blue and white striped shirts, with the away shorts and stockings of blue. Michel Kuipers went for his aqua and gold goalkeepers jersey, coupled with dark blue shorts and dark blue shorts
Dean Wilkins Attire: Mr Wilkins once again went for a suit coupled with his trench coat
Weather: A clear but freezing cold day was what we were greeted with in Wiltshire
Stadium Rating: Once the home of Premiership football, the County Ground is a decent stadium for League One standard. A large and old main stand is faced by a newer, two tiered effort. Behind one goal the home end is housed in a small seated stand with a rather low roof, while the other end is made up of an uncovered seated stand, complete with retro scoreboard. 7/10
Food Rating: Tom Witham was happy with his burger, while McCarthy also claimed for the hotdog to be of a suitable standard. However, the lack of ketchup was a let down. 6/10
Entertainment: A half time penalty shoot out was put on, as well as a large dancing robin. Both of these provided suitable entertainment to allow fans to take their mind off how cold it was. 7/10
Friendliness of Locals: The local people we spoke to seemed friendly enough, especially given the prospect their club could be days away from folding. 7/10
Standard of Local Females: We saw a decent number of average women in the Swindon area, although it was not as plentiful as the Yorkshire region. 6/10
Steward Rating: Friendly inside the stadium and outside. However, the police were completely over the top in their attempts to separate the two sets of fans at the end of the game. 7/10
Flag Attention: There was a lack of positions in which to erect the flag, and Withams suggestion of attaching it to the floodlight seemed slightly farfetched
Match Report: A poor and managerless Swindon were easily dispatched by the visitors from Sussex. It took only 2 minutes for Nicky Forster to open the scoring, and Jake Robinson doubled the advantage with a superb curling effort before half time. A lackluster second half was rounded off by a third from captain Dean Hammond to wrap up a fine win to boost the Albions play-off push
Thought of the Day: Tom Witham questioning if there is a market for a bicycle shop that also doubles up as a pub
