WIGAN ATHLETIC - SATURDAY 21/08/2004

Brighton have made a disappointing start to love back in Division One. Sorry, The Championship. With just 1 point out of a possible 9, they traveled to early league leaders Wigan, who were currently unbeaten. With Tom Stewart working, Witham and McCarthy were joined by Tom Cutting, son of Nick and brother of Joe and Sam. Unfortunately the camera was left behind, so its only a review this week
Mode of Transport: It was time to mount Liz, as we traveled on the Costa Express, otherwise known as the Official Supporters club coach for the 5 hour journey to Wigan, near Manchester
Team: A 4-4-2 line up of: Kuipers, Virgo, Cullip, Butters, Currie, Hinshlewood, Nicolas, Mayo, Molango and Knight
Kit: The away kit of all yellow with black trim was used today due to Wigan playing in blue, and Kuipers decided on a fantastic pearl silver and ruby red number, complete with black shorts and socks
Mark McGhee's Attire: A light blue shirt with black trousers, and he even went to the extreme of a black blazer midway through the second half
Weather: Sunny at Wigan, although a slight breeze meant it was a cool day. We also encountered spots of rain throughout the journey
Stadium Rating: The JJB Stadium opened in 1999. Designed by McAlpine, who also built Bolton and Huddersfield, and will build Brighton's new ground, it is a nice effort. A fabulous view was achieved from the top of the away section. 8/10
Food Rating: A delightful hotdog was only £2.20, although it was rather small and tasted distinctly of rubber. A pint of Fosters was also a disgraceful £2.80. 4/10
Entertainment: Half time entertainment was provided in the form of cheerleaders. Scott also received randy text messages from a mystery admirer wanting to 'rub ketchup on your thighs', although we discovered it was infact Witham using Cutting's phone. This helped pass the time on the journey
Friendliness of Locals: Seemed a friendly bunch, although this was probably helped by the fact they were top of the league and had just won 3-0
Standard of Local Females: Didn't really see a lot, although the cheerleaders were quite attractive, although as Witham pointed out they had 'probably slept with every man between the ages of 12-76 in the Wigan area'
Flag Attention: None. With Tom Stewart not making the trip, and Scott forgetting the Sussex by the Sea flag, we didn't have a flag to take
Match Report: Brighton were outclassed by Wigan 3-0. On the first half performance they maybe deserved something from the game, but in the second half deserved nothing. Wigan will do well this season, and unless Brighton can get Ben Roberts and Richard Carpenter fit soon, a season of struggle is on the cards
Thought of the Day: It was Witham again who provided this beauty. With the Brighton subs warming up, and the cheerleaders performing at the same time, he came up with: "Can you imagine if Albert Jarret just took off his shorts to reveal a 9 inch penis, and mounted each cheerleader in turn in a mass sexual romping"
