| The
opening game of pre-season is traditionally
played against Worthing at Woodside Road, and
following Brightons relegation, it would be the
first chance to watch the team since the disappointing
5-1 defeat against Stoke City at the end of last
season. With a number of trialists and young
players involved, it would be interesting to see
how the team got on, with Mr McGhee remaining as
manager despite building pressure |
| Mode
of Transport: |
We
decided to take the train for this one, with a
simple journey direct from Brighton to Worthing
station, once we had identified which station it
was we needed to get off at
|
| Team: |
Mark
fielded two sides for each half of the game.
Both used 4-4-2 formations, and the first half
team lined up as: Kuipers, Reid, Mendy, Butters,
Mayo; Cox, Hammond, Chamberlain, Frutos;
Biakolo, Kazim-Richards. The second half team
was: Henderson, Hart, El-Abd, Lynch, Bagayoko;
Brittain, Carpenter, Loft, Williams; Robinson,
Revell
|
| Kit: |
Worthing
decided on their home number of all red with
white trim, while the first half team wore the
new home strip of royal blue and white stripes,
white shorts and white socks, and the second
half team wore the new away shirt of white with
blue trim, combined with the home shorts and
socks. Both Wayne Henderson and Michel Kuipers
chose the yellow, black and white Tour-de-France
kit.

McGhee's Attire: |
Mr
McGhee started the season in fine fashion, as he
could easily have passed for a competitor in Mr
World 2006 in a dashing combination of a grey
shirt combined with beige trousers, again with
no tie, but disappointingly none of his usual
chest hair poking out
|
| Weather: |
Worthing
was bathed in sunshine and glorious heat
|
| Stadium
Rating: |
Woodside
Road is one of the better non-league stadia in
Sussex. A large main stand on one side is
complemented by terracing all around the ground,
with ample shelter provided around the ground.
6/10
|
| Food
Rating: |
The
burgers on offer were of a decent standard, even
if they did manage to run out of cheese at the
start of the second half which was disappointing.
6/10
|
| Entertainment: |
There
was nothing on offer, so we settled down for
exploring the bar under the main stand, which
was particularly good. 0/10
|
| Friendliness
of Locals: |
The
majority of the crowd was made up of Brighton
fans, so it was therefore extremely friendly.
However, the locals also were helpful throughout
the day and a credit to their town. 8/10
|
| Standard
of Local Females: |
Worthing
was disappointing for the standard of its
females. There were one or two decent ones
inside the stadium, but in the event it left a
lot to be desired. 3/10
|
| Steward
Rating: |
The
stewards were supplied by Brighton and Hove
Albion, and did a decent job of ensuring the
game passed without trouble. 7/10
|
| Flag
Attention: |
The
Crocs on Tour flag was used for many photos, and
was hung in a prominent position behind the
goal. It was also signed after the game by
former phone-in presenter Ian Hart, Alex Frutos,
Wayne Henderson and ultimately Mr McGhee

| Match
Report: |
Brighton
began their season with a convincing 4-0 win
over Ryman League Worthing. The visitors took
the lead through a Dean Hammond penalty, before
Worthing went onto miss one of their own. The
second half saw a new-look Brighton side come
out, and they went onto net 3 more, with Jake
Robinson getting a brace and new signing from
Braintree Alex Revell netting on his debut

| Thought
of the Day: |
We
wondered how Kerry Mayo could smell so good
after having our photo with him, and pondered
over whether he had infact covered himself in
Michel Kuipers reproductive fuel in order to
attract people. If so, it certainly worked
