It was hot, there
were fish and chips - and cricket. With Ian Simpson not playing, the game was
set at a much more even keel, as Kevin Ticehurst looked to pull the series back
to 1-1. He started well, winning the toss and electing to put McCarthy's men
into field

For the second
game running the extras piled up ridiculously high - this time 90 runs came from
the extras column. 157 is a fantastic score for this form of the game, and
McCarthy knew without Simpson in his batting lineup they would struggle to
score. Pick of the bowlers was Bob Ticehurst, taking 2-18

They managed to
keep the extras down, but could do nothing to stop Ian Simpson, as he retired
after a mammoth century. The rest of the batsman supported the efforts, and
Christian Jones did well to take the 2 wickets. After the game, the captains had
this to say
 |
SCOTT
McCARTHY: "It was a pleasing performance from my team.
Obviously, we have one man to thank for the victory, and that is Ian
Simpson - he looked unbeatable out there and really was superb. We could
have wrapped up the victory so much more easily had we of not given away
such a ridiculous amount of extras, so that is something I will need to
look at when picking my side next time. It was a good pitch to play on,
and full credit to both sides for helping to make it a fantastic day for
all" |
 |
KEVIN
TICEHURST: "We worked hard out there. Our batting was okay at times,
but a bit off-key when we needed vital runs to get that score up. Simmo
ran wild against us, and I nearly had him caught but it bounced too low.
Our bowling attack was superb, and our extras were fine. All we need is
a more attacking effort in the batting order and we may have made a
decent score, but 128 was not enough. Congratulations to Scott, but we
will be back for more. It was a good day for the fans, but the worse
thing of all was I got bowled by Kieran" |
