FASHION GUIDE 2004

Some people are blessed with a natural eye for fashion. They can see what will go down well this year, what won't and what they're going to wear. Others can't, and end up looking like right idiots. If you're the first type of person, and you're looking to get ahead of the competition in what to wear in 2004, you've come to the right place! Here is Scott McCarthy's guide to fashion this year!

THE BASICS

These are the basic items that you're going to need to stand out this year. They can all be picked up relatively cheaply in the Harrods of charity shops, that is the Salvation Army

Its back to basics. The original piece of Mac Industries fashion - the Beret. This can be moulded into the shape of your head, and gives the bearer a French look. It goes with practically anything, and can be easily folded into a pocket for storage. Along with Scott McCarthy, the Beret has also been worn by the following:
  • Sailor
  • Michael Crawford (As Frank Spencer in Some Mothers Do 'Ave 'Em)

The blazer first hit the headlines when Elliot Gwynne arrived at school in one. Since then it has been tried and tested by various people. Although Elliot publicised this fashion, it is a little known fact that it was Peter Ingles who started this fashion in the summer holidays of 2004. Easy to pick up in the Salvation Army, and with a variety of styles, Blazer's have also been worn by the following:
  • Various Politicians

The scarf also appeared at Oakmeeds through Elliot Gwynne. This isn't your tacky football scarf, this is the real McCoy. The longer the better, as it gives the ability to swing it around your head. Elliot wears a shortened version of this type of scarf, while the one preferred by Scott McCarthy is a longer option. Available in most places, the finer ones will you set back more than a cheaper one. These sorts of scarves are also modeled by:
  • Michael Caine (As Ebenezer Scrooge in a Muppet Christmas Carol)
  • John Lennon (In several of his solo videos, often seen on VH1 Classics)

This famous hat first hit the headlines when Scott McCarthy wore it into school around Christmas. The fashion soon swept Oakmeeds, with both Lewis Trower and Peter Ingles purchasing similar ones soon after. It is available for under £3 in most good shops, and some even come complete with a feather. One drawback is in wet conditions it becomes stiff, and is also not easy to store, due to the way it sits on the occupants head. This type of hat has also been worn by:
  • People in Last of the Summer Wine

Bow ties are also slowly coming into fashion, and we are predicting that they will be common items by the end of the year. Chris Traylen takes the credit for this one, as his bargain purchase of a rather dashing red one caused Scott McCarthy to purchase two for himself. Some will come with elastic which tucks under the collar, leaving the tie exposed, while others are simple clip in ones. However, these easily break. Most bow ties can be found for under a £1, and for this sort of price they are a bargain. These have also been seen modelled on:
  • John Virgo and various other snooker legends

Another new addition to the range, this stylish and efficient cane is yet to make its debut in the everyday fashions. This is mainly due to technical reasons, including worry of theft and the fact it could be classed as a dangerous weapon. It gives the feeling of power and respectfulness to the bearer, and is also handily used as a walking stick. Available wildly and in a variety of different forms, including different types of handle, these are sure to be top of your wanted list soon! Also modeled by:
  • Chris Eubank (Lord of Brighton, his handle is a horses head)

The braces are a fairly new addition to the fashion range, and it is not well-known that they are worn. However, they are firmly publicised by Scott McCarthy. These do the job of a belt, and what's more they are ten times more stylish. Available in a variety of colours and styles, they are easy to pick up, and usually cost less than £2. Braces have also been worn with success by:
  • David Jason (Del Boy, Only Fools and Horses
  • Norwich Union Adverts (Where they 'ping' them)

The final piece of the jigsaw, this overcoat is perhaps the most important part. It is extremely thick, and will keep the bearer warm throughout the long winter months. However, it is not waterproof. First modeled by Elliot Gwynne, who wears a similar type, this is certain to stop you catching hypothermia. The longer the better, but the desired length of the coat is just below the knees. Available cheaply and easily, this is a must have if you wish to be the complete fashion guru! Also worn by:
  • Gordon Strachan (Southampton FC Manager)

THE OUTFITS

Put them all together and what do you get? Here's the way to look cool!
The Indoor look! This is the way to feel comfortable around the wife and kids. Relax after a hard day at the office. For this look, you will need the following:
  • Trousers
  • Bow Tie
  • Shirt
  • Braces
  • Whisky

The trousers are relaxing, but make sure you wear those braces, otherwise you might lose them! The bow tie is just there for image purposes, to impress those passers by, who might be happening to look into your window. The look wouldn't be complete without the whisky though, as a man needs a drink to relax after a hard days work

Heading for a night on the town? There's no quicker way to a woman's heart than with a snappy dress sense. You'll be sure to get attention with this look! You will need:
  • Trousers
  • Shirt (Preferably a light colour)
  • Bow Tie
  • Blazer
  • Beret
  • Cane

By dressing like this, you're out to impress. The trousers are good, and the blazer says "I'm a man going places". The cane will demand respect, and should there be any trouble will come in as a handy weapon. The bow tie and the shirt look good, and the beret just finishes the all round "cool guy" look. Put a smile on your face, start winking and your sure to attract some attention from that someone you might be looking to impress!

Heading out for the night. Is it blowing a gale of freezing cold? Don't let the weather affect your status as a fashion god, throw on this little ensemble:
  • Trousers
  • Shirt
  • Bow Tie
  • Blazer
  • Hat
  • Scarf
  • Overcoat
  • Cane

Its the basic impress look, but it will ensure you're protected from the elements. The hat will protect your crafted hair from becoming messed up and prevent heat loss from your head, while the scarf will keep your neck warm. Wrap around several times, but then let a bit fall free. The cane will ensure that you don't fall on icy conditions, and gives you that powerful image. The coat not only keeps you warm, but looks good. Ensure you do the buttons up, and you're ready to go!

There you have it! The fashion guide for 2004. Use the knowledge well my friends, for it will serve you will this coming year!
