Mac
Industries today overcame Tom Walmsley's Burgess
Hill United in style, as they triumphed 8-3 over
the visitors to the Hamsters Cage. The game saw
4 debutants play for the home side, as a serious
of injuries, illnesses, and all-you-can-eat Chinese's
saw the Hamsters side decimated. Will Collin,
signed on Tuesday, made his first appearance for
the club, and he was partnered in defence by
Scott McCarthy. Three loan players also came in,
as Mark Potter, Oli Wright and Tom Binstead
joined hours before the game for an initial
months spell. Wright took up his customary
position between the sticks, with Potter joining
Peter Chapman and the returning Matt
Burbidge-Airs in the midfield. It meant that
Binstead was left to partner captain for the
evening Daniel Collin
The
Hamsters made the early running, as the visitors
struggled to find any sort of pattern. Mac
Industries nearly took the lead, as a quick
corner in from Dan Collin saw Binstead connect
with it, only to see his shot flash past the
post. The warning signs were there, and shortly
after the home side took the lead. Burbidge-Airs
winning the ball in the midfield, picked out
Binstead with a clever pass. The loanee was able
to play a reverse ball across the box, which Dan
Collin knocked home in trademark fashion. The
visitors lived up to their favorites tag though,
when a clever ball through saw Ben Walmsley
allowed into space, but his effort was saved by
Oli Wright at the near post. It was soon 2-0
though, and the same three players were involved
in the link up. A clever pass by Binstead found
Collin, who laid it into the past of
Burbidge-Airs, and the midfielder had no
problems in slotting the ball home for his first
of the season. Chapman, playing in a deeper
midfield role, nearly added himself to the score
sheet, as a clever pass from Burbidge-Airs
played in the experienced player, who saw his
shot well saved at the near post. The resulting
corner presented the Hamsters with a chance to
make it 3-0, but Burbidge-Airs saw his clever
back heel cleared off the line by Kieran
Booluck.
A
United corner gave them an opportunity, as the
ball played in defied Oli Wright, but luckily
hit Chapman on the line. Dan Powell somehow
managed to skew his shot over the bar from all
of 2 yards, with the goal gaping in his wake.
Wright kept his side in it moments late, a long
range effort from Elliot was palmed away by the
debutant, and then minutes later player-manager
Walmsley shot inches wide from distance. Ben
Walmsley then tested Wright, but the keeper was
equal to his shot, pushing it behind for a
corner. He was at it again minutes later, a
clever free-kick allowing Elliot the chance to
shoot after he beat McCarthy. The United striker
finally got on the score sheet, as he was
allowed to run before exchanging a one-two with
Booluck, which saw him through on goal, calmly
slotting the ball past Wright. The Hamsters two
goal advantage was restored on the brink of half
time, as a long pass found Dan Collin, who
bought it down beautifully before firing past
the keeper.
The
second half opened with a goal, as McCarthy
worked hard to win the ball for his side, before
splitting the defence with a pass to Collin,
which the captain duly converted for his
hat-trick. Binstead then marked his debut with a
goal, Burbidge-Airs winning the ball from Ryan
Daniels before playing in the Diamonds man, who
netted easily to make it 5-1. Ben Walmsley
missed another golden chance for the visitors,
after Wright spilled a routine catch, but the
youngster managed to put his chance wide. Tom
Walmsley pulled it back to 5-2 shortly after, a
training-ground corner allowed Daniels to shoot,
but his shot was blocked, before coming back to
Powell, whose shot took a deflection.
Fortunately for United, it deflected straight to
their player-manager, who stuck out a foot to
knock it home. Collin got his fourth of the
night though to restore the Hamsters 4 goal
lead, Binstead and Burbidge-Airs again combining
to allow the striker to net his 80th Hamsters
goal. Elliot again tested Wright, but the keeper
was able to push the shot round the post. Will
Collin soon got in on the act, as he won the
ball from Walmsley, before embarking on a
powerful run, playing a one-two with brother
Dan, and firing the ball past the goalkeeper.
Burbidge-Airs nearly grabbed his second of the
night, as Collin played a delightful cross in,
but the former Southdown man saw his shot
blocked by the keeper.
United
got another back though, good played from
Walmsley found Ryan Daniels, whose shot from
distance flew post a stationery Wright in the
Hamsters goal. Burbidge-Airs did add his second
of the night though, as he ventured forward on a
mazy run, before slotting the ball past the
keeper to wrap up an impressive 8-3 victory
