Mac
Industries tonight returned to winning ways at the MBM
Services McCarthy Industries Triangle Community Stadium.
Following his sides poor performance in their last outing, the
14-7 defeat to the same opponents, manager Jamie Farhall
strengthened his squad with 2 new signings. Tom Walmsley went
straight into the starting 6 in the center of the park
following his £2.5m move from Southdown Rovers. Jamie Jones,
signed after impressing in the youth team, also started the
game at the heart of defence alongside Bert Lloyd. Walmsley
was partnered by Farhall in the center of the park, with Peter
Chapman playing up front alone. Gary Harding recovered from a
suspected STD, but he was not risked, starting on the bench.
Ashley Wells pulled out of the squad hours before kick off,
after injury his foot in a freak cooking accident, and Scott
McCarthy recovered from leprosy to captain the side from the
goal.
Things
started badly for the Hamsters, as they went 1-0 down early
on. Handcross applied constant pressure, and despite a string
of fine saves from McCarthy were rewarded with an early goal.
However, the constant running of new signing Tom Walmsley soon
had the fans at the Non-Clock End purring, as he demonstrated
superb passing ability to help Farhall pull it back to level
terms. Mac Industries soon increased their lead, when they
took advantage of the rolling sub rule, and bought on Gary
Harding, who soon netted after a good move. Handcross pulled
it back again though, and McCarthy was lucky to escape a red
card after rushing madly out of his area and punching the ball
clear. The Hamsters extended their lead, when Chapman got in
on the scoring act, running free down the left channel to fire
home in one of the goals of the season. Handcross pulled it
back though, as McCarthy was furious with his defence, but Mac
Industries went 4-2 ahead through the work of Farhall, who
latched onto a superb ball from Walmsley. The new signing ran
the midfield, and alongside Harding could prove to be one hell
of a partnership. The Hamsters went 5-2 up before half time,
when Farhall grabbed his hat-trick goal, latching onto a
superb long throw from Scott McCarthy. However, Handcross made
it 5-4 going into half time with 2 well taken goals from set
pieces
Into
the second half, and Handcross made it 5-5, but with Harding
and Walmsley running the midfield for Mac Industries, were
soon back in it, taking a 7-5 lead with goals through Bert
Lloyd and Jamie Farhall, his 4th of the evening. Chapman was
replaced, and the site slipped to being 9-8 down, but he was
soon re-introduced, as they pulled it back to go 10-9 up, with
another 2 from Farhall. The Hamsters were playing the sort of
passing game the fans could get aroused over, and this really
was total football. Pass and move, a thing not seen for many
years by the fans. Walmsley endeared himself to the hearts of
all fans though, when he blocked the ball on the line with his
testicular area, and he was soon replaced by the superb Jamie
Jones, who was tasting football on English soil for the first
time. Walmsley was missed though, as Handcross made it 10-10,
but was re-introduced in place of Peter Chapman, who
collided with an advertising board, and he earnt a standing
ovation from the whole of the stadium. He soon came back on
though, replacing Harding, and got in the scoring act straight
away, netting another superb finish, and Farhall got his 7th
of the night to make it 12-10, before Harding, back on in
place of Lloyd, popped up to make it 13-10. Handcross pulled
one back to make it 13-11, but Chapman netted the hat-trick
with a superb finish to make it 14-11 and restore Mac
Industries 3 goal lead. With the game all but sewn up, the
Hamsters went back to the 6 individuals that have seem them
falter so many times before, with long runs from individuals,
and allowed Handcross back into it, as a series of errors saw
them fight back to 14-13. With Mac Industries hanging on,
captain McCarthy ordered his troops to hold on at all costs,
and the last action of the game saw him boot the ball high
into The Barry Smith Main Stand. When the ref blew his final
whistle, the fans exploded with joy - the Hamsters made it 3
wins out of 4 under Farhall, and those loyal supporters had 2
new heroes to salute - that of Jamie Jones and Tom Walmsley.
After
the game, captain Scott McCarthy told the press: "This
was a different side that turned up this week. We showed that
last time out the trialist affected our rhythm. We also had
proper preparing time today. I'm a firm believer that success
doesn't come to you, you go out and find it. With the signings
of 2 very able players in Jamie Jones and Tom Walmsley, we are
showing that we can go out and get it. I thought Walmsley was
absolutely top class in the midfield engine room, he just
didn't stop running. With him and Harding in there, we now
have 2 players we know will cover the whole pitch and give
110% every game. Tom's passing range was phenomenal, and it
created a lot of chances for us. I think he will become a key
player. Chappers was also on good form tonight, netting a
hat-trick, and Farhall once again didn't dissapoint, although
he needs to pass the ball a bit more, but that's something we
can work on. This has to be the most pleasing performance
since I've come here, we kept slipping behind, but showed the
battling qualitites needed to get back in it. Our passing and
moving was the best we've seen in a long long time. However, I
still feel theres more to come from this team, and we need to
tighten up at the back, but don't forget we missed Doug Lane
again tonight. All in all, a good game. If we perform like
this every week we won't lose too many more games. KEEP THE
FAITH"
