| Robert
Jamie Jones was an un-known quality before he was
spotted by Mac Industries in 2004. Born and raised in a
small mining village in the Rhondda Valley, Wales, Jamie
showed a natural gift for football at a young age. He
moved to South East England as a 10 year old, and soon
fell in love with football in Burgess Hill, attending
games regularly at both Leylands Park and Janes Lane.
Given his chance to sign when Jamie Farhall, on the
recommendation of Scott McCarthy, gave him a surprise
contract and debut in 2003-2004, he grasped the nettle
with both hands, and secured a place as a first team
regular in the heart of the defence. Playing a vital
role in the side, he was given the accolade of
"Most Entertaining Player" during the
2004-2005 season, despite the fact that he missed a
large portion of the season with a rectum injury.
However, he battled through this, and the Welshman
weighed in with some vital performances, making him a
fans favourite. 2005-2006 saw Jones appointed club
captain, and he responded with a delightful set of
performances. He was soon ruled out again though, and
missed 6 months of the season with another mystery
injury. The 2006-07 was completely missed, as Jones
seeked specialist treatment in New Zealand for his
rectum problems, and it showed as the Hamsters trademark
flowing football was missing somewhat
Jones is
loved by the fans for his unauthordox style and his
ability to produce moments of sheer brilliance that are
untouchable by any of his team mates. When fit, Robert
can turn a game around in one moment of brilliance.
