Mac
Industries today suffered their first defeat of
the season, as they slipped to a 3-2 defeat at
home to Mierosoft. McCarthy was forced to make
several changes from the convincing win over
Parkour, as Peter Chapman, Doug Lane and Pete
Morgan returned at the expense of Jack Simpson,
Ian Simpson and Jamie Jones.
Hamsters
started poorly, and were under early pressure.
Going forward, they looked dangerous, but the
midfield battle was being won by Mierosoft, as
the continued to dominate. The visitors took an
early lead, as Mierosoft outnumbered the
Hamsters defence and took advantage, as Scott
McCarthy bizarrely attempted to sort out his
sock, meaning that James Watson was able to
round the keeper with ease and make it 1-0. Mac
Industries soon got back into it though, and
rocked by their poor start, they attempted to
get control of the game. The midfield pushed
forward, and it continued to leave gaps at the
back, allowing Mierosoft to attack. Missing
Simpson at the back, the Hamsters defence looked
weak, as Riley and Elliott linked up well, but
just couldn't find the final product. The
possession was being won by the home team, but
Chris Davis was on top-form to deny Mac
Industries an equaliser. A flurry of corners saw
them come close, and just as the home fans were
beginning to become impatient, it was Peter
Chapman who got an equaliser. Dan Collin set out
on a trademark run down the right flank, and his
ball into the box was turned home by Chapman, as
the Hamsters finally made their dominance count.
They
took what could be considered an underserved
second, when Chapman returned the favor to his
strike partner, as a lovely dummy allowed Dan
Collin to get his 45th goal of the season, and
make it 2-1. The lead was short lived though, as
the Hamsters midfield again went missing,
allowing Kieran Elliott to beat McCarthy, who's
touch on it was not enough. Desperate to get
back into the game, Tom Walmsley lead the charge
forward, but the home side were again caught out
on the break, as Watson looked to net his second
of the game. McCarthy managed to touch it onto
the post though, but Elliott was there to smash
home the rebound and make it 3-2, right on the
stroke of half time
In
the second half, the Hamsters continued to
control the game, but the Mierosoft back line
held firm. Chapman and Collin missed numerous
chances, as Chris Davis saved everything thrown
at him. Mierosoft looked to break again, but
this time McCarthy denied them the goals, as he
produced 3 fine saves. At the other end, chance
after chance went begging for the Hamsters, as
they hit everything apart from the back of the
net. In the end, you could just sense it wasn't
going to be the home sides day, as the final
whistle blew, meaning that the Hamsters slipped
to defeat for the first time in 10 months.
After
the game, Mac Industries manager Scott McCarthy
said: "It hurts to lose any game, but
especially one in which we dominated. The only
difference between the sides was that they were
clinical with their chances, whereas we just
couldn't score. It's one of those things though,
if the ball hits the back of the net its a goal,
but the keepers saved it so it isn't. I don't
like to make excuses, but I don't think the fact
that 2 of our players had a night they'd rather
forget on Saturday, and 2 more played early
Sunday morning. Saying that, you can't take
anything away from Mierosoft, they defended hard
and although we dominated, they got the win. I
can't fault the players for work rate, it was
first class, and that is one of the positives we
take into the next game. Obviously that was our
2nd game in 72 hours, but we now have a good 2
weeks rest before we travel to face this lot,
and we know that the Simpson twins, Ticehurst
and possibly even Farhall will be back for that
game. Today was a poor performance, and the onus
will be on us to put it right in the next game.
KEEP THE FAITH"
