Mac
Industries were the victors as they triumphed
12-5 over Mierosoft FC - but the performance
wasn't as comftable as the result would suggest.
The team remained unchanged from the 25-6
victory over the same opponents in the Hamsters
last outing, but Jamie Farhall was re-united
up-front with Peter Chapman, meaning Dan Collin
dropped into midfield.
The
change obviously effected the team, as Mac
Industries struggled for rhythm in the first 10
minutes. Mierosoft were well disciplined, and
showed great organisation as they kept
wave-upon-wave of Hamsters attacks out. And it
was the visitors who broke the deadlock, when
Tom Walmsley played the ball back to McCarthy.
The Director of Football tried to beat Mierosoft
debutant Ed Pitt, who managed to tackle the
Hamsters keeper and make it 1-0 to the visitors.
The
goal shocked the home side, as they began to
argue among themselves. Out of shape, Mac
Industries players were just wandering around
the pitch. Another counter-attack from Mierosoft
allowed Pitt to again cause havoc in the
defence, and he forced a fine save from
McCarthy. The visitors finally got the second
they deserved, when Pitts shot was saved by
McCarthy, but the ball hit Doug Lane and
re-bounded in
Changes
had to be made, and Collin was pushed back
up-front, with Farhall dropping into midfield.
The team still looked shapeless, but finally
started passing the ball in the way that it can.
Chance after chance came along, but the
Mierosoft keeper was on top form to keeper Mac
Industries out. The deadlock was eventually
broken though, when top scorer Dan Collin
netted. A long range effort from Doug Lane was
then cleverly diverted by Chapman, only for his
effort to shoot over the bar. Mierosoft still
looked dangerous on the break, and McCarthy was
determined to make up for his earlier error with
a string of fine saves. The Hamsters defence was
breached again though, when Pitt got his 2nd of
the game, beating McCarthy with a low angled
shot.
A
foul on Farhall then presented a free-kick for
Mac Industries, and before regular taker Scott
McCarthy could get forward to take the kick, Tom
Walmsley had shot and curled a fantastic effort
into the back of the net. The home side
continued to push, and a fantastic effort from
Chapman from distance smashed off the underside
of the bar to the safety of a goal kick. An own
goal on the stroke of half time meant that Mac
Industries went into the break back on level
terms, but far from convincing.
A
half time clear the air team talk saw McCarthy
re-organise positions, as the team went out with
new believe following the finish to the half. 2
goals from Dan Collin saw the Hamsters pull
ahead, as they began to settle back into the
sweet passing play they had demonstrated in most
games this season. McCarthy was back to his
best, saving superbly from Rob Osbourne, and
denying Pitt time and time again. However,
Mierosoft player-manager Kieran Elliott soon
found the back of the net, beating McCarthy with
a fine effort. Captain Tom Walmsley put Mac
Industries 2 goals ahead again though, before
Dan Collin wrapped up his hat-trick, and Jamie
Farhall finally appeared on the score-sheet.
Peter Chapman added another to put Wanderers 9-4
ahead. McCarthy then denied Dave Riley with a
reflex save, while Doug Lane picked up a groin
injury, forcing him off to a standing ovation
from the Non-Clock End. Jamie Farhall added
another 2 goals, but Mierosoft still came
forward, with McCarthy again denying Riley and
Pitt. Riley finally gave Mierosoft there 5th of
the game, but it was left to man-of-the-match
McCarthy to wrap up the victory, when he fired
home the rebound after the keeper made a fine
save from another Chapman effort
