Mac
Industries gained revenge on Mierosoft for the
3-3 draw in the teams last meeting with a 10-6
victory this time around, but it came amid
massively controversial circumstances at the
Hamsters Cage.
McCarthy
made 3 changes to the side that triumphed over
the old boys, with Dave Riley and Kieran Elliott
both returning to Mierosoft for the game. Tom
Walmsley returned in midfield, alongside Jamie
Farhall, back after a one game absence. Dan
Collin was back after suffering from flu, which
meant McCarthy could return to between the
sticks, while Jamie Jones started after being
ruled out of the last game with a scrotum
problem.
With
Collin back in the side, the Hamsters reverted
back to the passing game that has won them many
plaudits so far this season. It was Mierosoft
who nearly broke the deadlock early on though,
as Jones was forced into clearing off the line.
It was the Hamsters who took the lead though,
when Tom Walmsley's shot was deflected straight
into the path of Head Coach Jamie Farhall, who
was left with a simple finish to make it 1-0. It
soon became clear though that Doug Lane was not
at 100%, when he carried a cone from the
perimeter fence onto the pitch. Rumors of a
pre-match drinking session started to spread,
but it wasn't showing in any of the other
players, as Peter Chapman made it 2-0. Jamie
Jones winning the ball at the back, he played it
through to Chapman, who worked a nice one-two
with Collin and finished off with the ball in
the back of the net.
Mierosoft
showed their famous fighting spirit though, and
McCarthy, also rumored to have been drinking
prior to the game, was at full stretch to deny
Kieran Elliott. The visitors had given the Mac
Industries fans something to cheer with an array
of own goals on previous visits to the Triangle,
and it was no different in this game. A long
ball over the top from Walmsley saw Davis
hesitate to come and claim it, and Chapman
showed good skill to chip the ball over a
defender, who raised his hand and knocked it
home to make it 3-0 Hamsters. Chapman then
played in Collin after winning the ball
unorthodoxly with his chin, and Collin did the
business to fire home a 4th for the home side
A
mix up at the back between Jones and McCarthy,
in which the Wanderers defender missed his
header saw Elliott go free, but the Mierosoft
manager hit the bar, with the rebound falling
into the lucky hands of Scott McCarthy. It was
he who created the 5th goal, when a long goal
kick found Chapman, who passed to Collin. Dan
Collin pulled the ball back for his strike
partner to fire home his 2nd and Mac Industries
5th of the evening.
Mierosoft
got back into it on the stroke of half time,
after comical defending that will long be
remembered by Hamsters fans. Elliott's long ball
over the top caused all sorts of problems, and
as McCarthy hesitated, then decided to come and
claim it, Jones headed it over his dumbstruck
keeper. McCarthy couldn't stop, and took down
Jones, leaving Dave Riley to pick up the pieces
and score an open goal. Jones was down for a
while after the collision, and early fears where
that he may have re-ignited his scrotum injury.
Luckily, he was able to carry on into the second
half
It
was Mierosoft who began the second half the
better team, and soon got rewarded for their
hard work. Jamie Jones was caught in possession
at the back, and the ball found its way to
Riley, who left McCarthy with no chance as he
fired home. Lloyd continued to rally the back
line, and as Mac Industries pushed forward, the
matches turning point occurred. Chapman was
bought down by Elliott, and reacting to what he
thought was laughter aimed at him, chased down
Mierosoft defender Matt Bell, and tripped him
up. Luckily, Bell was not seriously injured, as
play continued. Dan Collin found himself in time
and space, and expertly bought the ball down
before firing a volley into the post. The lose
ball came straight to Tom Walmsley, who bought
it under control and curled a superb shot into
the top right corner of the net. However, the
goal went largely un noticed, as Director of
Football Scott McCarthy and Peter Chapman were
locked in a shouting match over the trip.
The incident had spurred on Mierosoft, and as
McCarthy and Chapman exchanged explicits in
front of the Non-Clock End, Mierosoft began to
take control. The argument continued to rage on,
as Bert Lloyd attempted to calm down his
Director of Football. Matt Bell showed he wasn't
affected by the attack, as the corner was played
short, and with most eyes on the blazing
argument, he was able to fire a shot from the
edge of the box into McCarthy's goal to make it
6-3
Jamie
Farhall soon embarked on one of his trademark
runs, but before he could get his shot away, Dan
Collin took the ball from him, and fired it home
to make the score 7-3. Mac Industries lost all
shape after the Chapman incident, and Kieran
Elliott was allowed to play a superb pass
straight into the path of Riley, whose shot beat
McCarthy, despite the keeper getting a hand to
it. At 7-4, Mierosoft were looking dangerous,
and when Jones passed the ball across his goal,
it was a recipe for disaster. Sam Kumm picked it
up, beat his man, and slipped the ball sideways
to Dave Crisp, who fired it home to make it 7-5
The
Hamsters needed someone to get hold of the game,
and that man was Jamie Farhall. Shouldering the
responsibility he had been used to in the John
Smith era, he received a text book ball from
Doug Lane, and fired in an unstoppable shot to
beat Davis at his near post. McCarthy was soon
called into action, denying Elliott and Riley on
several occasions again, as Mierosoft began to
get back into it. Tom Walmsley won the ball in
the midfield though, and his weaving run saw a
text book pass to Dan Collin. Collin showed the
superb first touch that was his legacy at
Southdown Rovers, as he laid it into the path of
Farhall, who fired it home and rounded off a
superb team move to make it 9-5.
Mierosoft
continued to press, and Chapman was forced to
clear off the line at the expense of a corner.
Played short, Mac Industries failed to pick up,
and Riley was left with the time and space to
pick his spot and fire home. Jamie Jones had a
chance to wrap the game up in the closing
stages, but he couldn't connect with Farhall's
cross in front of an open goal, so it was left
to Jamie Farhall to net his 4th and secure the
three points, as Walmsley found Jones, whose
superb pass landed straight at the feet of the
striker to make it 10-6
