McCarthy
Industries today stretched their unbeaten streak
to 9 games, as they beat Parkour FC 12-1 at the
Hamsters Cage. Scott McCarthy's first home game
in charge saw several changes, as key players
were rested ahead of Sundays clash with
Mierosoft. Jack Simpson was given his first
senior start in goal, while his brother Ian
partnered Dan Collin in attack. Bert Lloyd and
Jamie Jones made up the defensive pairing, after
Doug Lane pulled out with food poisoning just
hours before the game. Scott McCarthy partnered
Tom Walmsley in midfield, and despite media
speculation, Walmsley kept the captains armband.
The
Hamsters were slow to start, and struggled to
find any rhythm. The one touch passing that has
not been seen at the Cage for so long was back,
but it was not getting results, as they couldn't
grind down a stubborn Parkour defence. Ian
Simpson came closest to breaking the deadlock,
when he was played in by Tom Walmsley, but
Simpson saw his shot saved well by Christian
Jones in the Parkour goal. Dan Collin and Scott
McCarthy linked up well down the left flank, but
McCarthy's ball into the box just eluded the
on-rushing Bert Lloyd. Parkour had chances to
take the lead, but they struggled to get shots
off, as Jack Simpson looked comftable, sweeping
up long balls forward. Jamie Jones showed a
spark of creativity that nearly broke the
deadlock, when he played in Ian Simpson, but the
big man saw his shot cannon back off the post,
with Christian Jones beaten. The Hamsters
finally took the lead with a fine passing move
that tore the Parkour defence apart. Simpson
received the ball on the halfway line, his turn
and pass found Walmsley, who released McCarthy
down the right flank. Getting to the by-line, he
pulled it back, and Jamie Jones saw his shot
blocked, but the re-bound fell straight to the
feet of Tom Walmsley, who fired home to answer
his critics in emphatic style.
Moments
later, it was 2-0. Using the added height that
Simpson has, Jack Simpson's long goal kick fell
straight to the head of his brother, whose flick
on was found by Dan Collin, and he duly rifled
the ball past Jones in the visitors goal to make
it 2-0. The bouncing ball into the Parkour area
was obviously giving the visitors trouble, as
again Simpson powered through, only to see his
shot blocked by Jones. The Hamsters got lucky
with the re-bound though, as it fell straight to
Dan Collin, who tucked in his second of the
game. Dan Collin was causing havoc with the
Parkour defence, and again he drifted wide and
managed to deliver a ball into the box, but
no-one was there to meet it. Christian Jones,
who took man of the match in the last meeting
between these 2 sides, was at it again, as he
pulled off a sensational one handed save from
Simpson. There was nothing he could do about Mac
Industries 4th goal though. McCarthy picked up
the ball in the midfield, and played a quick
one-two with Simpson, before firing home a
rocket from distance. Parkour weren't out of the
game yet though, and when Peter Blenkarn found
himself with time and space, his shot looked
destined for the back of the net, but somehow
Jack Simpson managed to keep it out. Parkour
could sense a goal was coming for them, as the
Hamsters sat back. Against the run of play,
Simpson got his first goal as a Mac Industries
player, when Lloyds long ball out of defence
fell into his path, and he beat Jones at his far
post. It was the same combination again who made
it 6-0, this time Lloyd intercepting a pass, and
playing in Simpson for his 2nd of the game
Parkour
threatened again shortly after, showing the
never-say-die attitude that they have become
re-knowned for. This time, good build up play in
the area saw a shot blocked by Dan Collin, and
luckily Jack Simpson was able to gather up the
rebound. Moments later, it was 7-0, as Jones and
Collin linked up to good effect. Collin
intercepting a pass before embarking on a mazy
run, and a one-two with Jones saw the striker in
on goal, and he beat the keeper to wrap up his
hat-trick. The Hamsters started to settle now,
and scored one of the team moves of the season
to make it 8-0. Walmsley won the ball in a
typically robust challenge. He found Collin with
an inch-perfect pass, and with one touch, Collin
flicked it to McCarthy, who played a one-touch
pass into the path of Simpson. His shot was
blocked by Jones, but the rebound was put in by
Dan Allen, who now has one own goal to his eight
this season for Parkour. Mac Industries
continued to play some nice football, as the
goal inspired them to keep the one touch
football going. McCarthy and Simpson linked up
well, but McCarthy's shot was flashed wide of
the post. Down the other end, Parkour were
unlucky to see an effort hit the woodwork, and
the rebound was easily saved by Simpson, as the
referee signaled for half time.
The
second half started sloppily for the Hamsters,
and Parkour got the goal that they deserved. Dan
Collin attempted to dribble the ball out of
defence, but lost out, and the ball fell to Mike
Poole, who scored a debut goal for the visitors.
McCarthy and Simpson linked up again, and it was
McCarthy's delivery into the box that almost saw
Jones beat Jones, but Jamie's shot was superbly
saved by Christian's face. Dan Allen almost made
up for his own goal, when he was played in by
Dan Lawrence, but the big man dragged his shot
just inches wide of the post. Parkour could
sense that the Hamsters were losing it, and Jack
Simpson was forced into tipping another effort
over the crossbar. Jamie Jones was lucky to stay
on the pitch moments later, as an awful trip on
Harvey Asahi saw the Parkour man go down for a
long time. The resulting free-kick was smacked
into the wall though by Christian Jones. Jones
was again denied by Jones, this time Simpson's
flick on was met by McCarthy, who again played
in Jones, but Christian spread himself well to
deny the goal. Jones pulled off another great
save moments later, as Walmsley's corner was
chested down by Simpson, straight into the path
of Dan Collin, who saw his volley tipped over
the bar by Jones. The Hamsters still couldn't
break down the stubborn Parkour defence, as they
struggled throughout the first 15 minutes of the
second half. Parkour almost pulled another goal
back, but Jack Simpson made another fine save to
keep the score down. The breakthrough finally
came for Mac Industries when Walmsley played a
one-two with Jones, and the Scotsman got the
ball into the box for Dan Collin to finish.
Ian
Simpson was denied his hat-trick by the
crossbar, as a fine volley smashed against the
woodwork. Jamie Jones finally got on the score
sheet though, as another piece of fine link-up
play between McCarthy and Simpson allowed
Walmsley to get a shot off, which was saved by
Jones, but the re-bound fell to Jones, who beat
Jones to make it 10-1. Jamie Jones scored a
second soon after, after Simpson won the ball
back, and delivered a superb ball to Jones, who
hit a fantastic drive past his brother and into
the corner of the net. Route One was again the
cause of Mac Industries 12th and final goal, as
Jack Simpson's long ball forward found Dan
Collin, and he played in Ian Simpson, who took
the chance to wrap up a hat-trick on his home
debut.
