McCarthy
Industries today crowned their first game at the
Jupps Fish Shop Cissbury Park Arena with a
convincing victory over Parkour FC. Playing
their second away game in the space of 3 days,
McCarthy made several changes to his side. Dan
Collin started in goal, while Tom Walmsley moved
back into the back 3. Jack Simpson played wide
on the right, with brother Ian in the middle,
alongside debutant Chris Traylen. Bert Lloyd was
wide on the left, which meant that Scott
McCarthy and Kevin Ticehurst played up-front
together for the first time since 1998, when
they starred together as the Seagulls Club front
pairing.
The
fans were expecting a convincing victory from
the Hamsters, but things didn't work out that
way in the first half. Ticehurst missed a hatful
of chances, and was becoming clearly frustrated
about it, screaming obscenities throughout the
game, much to the laughter of the Parkour fans
gathered behind the game. After going close on
several occasions, and being denied by Christian
Jones, it was McCarthy who opened the scoring.
Lloyds pass was slotted home by the manager, as
he made it 1-0. Despite dominating the game, the
Hamsters couldn't add a second. Dan Collin was
called into action on several occasions, making
a few routine saves. A second for the Hamsters
finally came as they earned a corner, Walmsley's
flighted delivery landing on the head of Doug
Lane, who knocked home his second in as many
games. Straight from kick off Parkour scored
though, as Dan Collin was lobbed from the
halfway line. Despite having several
opportunities, the visitors, and in particular
Kevin Ticehurst just couldn't score, and they
went in at half time with the scores a balanced
2-1.
In
the second half, the Hamsters came back out and
immediately looked more clinical in front of
goal. Once they scored their 3rd, it was just a
case of how many it would be. Forgetting
defence, the Hamsters pushed forward in order to
try and get goals, and Parkour looked dangerous
on the break. Tom Walmsley felt harshly punished
as he gave away a penalty for handball, but
Christian Jones saw his effort saved by Collin.
The game continued, and Mac Industries wracked
up the goals, before Parkour pulled one back
towards the end. The game finished at 17-2 -
with the final goals tally being: McCarthy 3,
Jack Simpson 3, Kevin Ticehurst 3, Ian Simpson
2, Tom Walmsley 1, Chris Traylen 1, Bert Lloyd
1, Doug Lane 1, Pete Morgan 1 and an own goal,
after McCarthy's cross was turned in by Dan
Allen in the Parkour goal
After
the game, McCarthy said: "A pleasing
result, and the one we would've expected. At
half time we just knew it was a case of chances
not taken, and if we carried on playing the way
we were, we would get the result. In the second
half, we finally made the dominance count, and
got the result we wanted. It was good to see
everyone on the goal sheet, and it was a good
result for the fans, who supported us despite
the appalling conditions. The seasons almost
over now, and we know that losing only one game
is a fine record to have. KEEP THE FAITH"
