SUSSEX SHARKS V MIDDLESEX CRUSADERS - 02/09/04

The last day-night game of the season. Sussex's promotion dreams were ended on Sunday, and Middlesex have already been promoted as champions. Nothing to play for then, a boring game? Far from it! We followed the time-old tradition of last game of the season being fancy dress, and at the same time decided to celebrate Sussex's best one-day season for donkeys years by having a piss up at the same time. With the game live on sky as well, it was all set up for a cracking evening!

And this sign was the brainchild of Tom Walmsley, who unfortunately couldn't make the trip Robin and Vader show their support for Fixturesman
As does this famous celebrity who was present in the ground Darth Vader uses his Jedi powers to send in a stinging delivery
The Umpires are ready for the start of the second innings
The Sussex team huddle as they prepare to bowl out Middlesex for less than 210  Scott enjoys another beer
Sussex get ready to field James Kirtley fields in front of us
With us taking the Chap Mobile home, Peter was very sensible and only drank cream soda Ape enjoys a burger
And Bert has a jacket potato with curry, although the curry would later cause considerable discomfort Bert washes it down with a can of Scrumpy Jack, as Scott enjoys another beer
The picture of the day! Jamie Jones had rather too much, and missed college the next day with a hangover Scott looks happy as Sussex head towards victory
The Australlian man standing up behind had beer thrown over him for waving the Aussie flag around. Quote of the day went to the fans behind, who came up with the chant: "Get those fucking stars off our flag" The last ball of the game, as Sussex get the wicket and wrap up a fine victory over the champions, who were all out for a mere 85
All the beer has gone, a fine effort in the end The end-of-match presentations, as Murray Goodwin was named man of the match
And the Barmy Army celebrate the end of a fine season on the way back to the station
It was a fine end to the season. Sussex beat the Champions convincingly, and it bodes well for next season. We sang and cheered all night, getting nearly everyone at the Cromwell Road End to join in as well. We even made it onto sky, and if Chapman does his stuff, we hope to bring the footage to you!

Most compelling of all though, was when one old lady came up to us at the end and said: "You made it entertaining tonight lads". It bought a lump to 4 rather drunk throats. ROLL ON NEXT SEASON!
