Sussex Sharks v Nottinghamshire Outlaws - 21/07/04

The second trip of the season for the Barmy Army was to see Sussex take on Nottinghamshire, in another floodlight match at Hove. Sussex beat Derbyshire the previous Sunday, and were starting a devilish turn of form. Scott, Tom and Bert were joined by 'The Ape' and the famous Bob for the match at the County Ground.

Tom enjoys the train journey to Hove Mushtaq Ahmed warms up ahead of the match
As does captain Chris Adams The burger van is present, as always
And this week, the luxury of the Jacket Potato Van And of course, the beer tent
Bert looks forward to an exciting evening of cricket ahead And Scott's soon at the burger bar
This hotdog was never going to help his recent weight problems This advert appeared in the programme, much like Jamie Jones' batting performances, except it would read: "No, in for a golden duck"
Tom enjoys a packet of crisps The team sheet featured some more interesting names. Sidebottom batting at 11, and Franks at 1. Surely not Oakmeeds very own?!
Scott struggles with the wordsearch James Kirtley is in the field
The lights that will allow play to continue deep into the evening McCarthy's famous signed bat made the journey for a game during the tea break
Jason Voros is 12th man for the Sharks Bert enjoys a snack during the game
Sussex won the toss and elected to field first The famous air horn was also there to salute sixes, fours and wickets for the Sharks
"He swings, its four, it must be Ian Ward". The Sussex batsman fields in front of us The legendary Salt and Shake crisps! Tom demonstrates how to use them! Firstly you add the salt

Then you give them a shake Then you eat them! Delightful stuff
Scott settles down for a nice spud, purchased from the Jacket Potato stand Although the majority of his beans topping somehow ended up in his shoe
Bert uses his new-found scoring skills to keep a track of the match Mark Davis fields
"Lukey Wright Wright Wright". The Sussex all-rounder fields well Its the tea break, and Bert sends in a delivery......
.......which Tom, in bat, defends well The famous flag was flying a bit low, but was still there
The now legendary McCarthy Industries timepiece shows us it was rather late when the floodlights came on Australian Stuart McGill fields in front of us
And there he is again Mr Franks of Oakmeeds made a shock appearance for the Outlaws
As did the legendary Shreck! A fabulous short here, the lights are on, its dusk over Hove, and a lone seagull swoops down between the 2 pylons. Magical
Kev 'The Ape' Ticehurst finally arrives, sporting a very dashing hat Pietersen comes over to sign an autograph
We change ends for the final overs of the second innings. The Pavilion is bathed in light Sussex need 52 runs from 42 balls to win the game. Its gonna be a tight finish
Bob Ticehurst can hardly take the sheer excitement Tom and Bert celebrate, as the ball goes for 4 runs
They now only need 7 runs from 9 balls to win the game, with 5 wickets remaining! 3 wickets have fallen for only 3 runs. Sussex now need just 4 runs from 6 balls to win the game
Bert can hardly watch, as the end of the game approaches and its still so tight And it comes down to the last ball of the game! Sussex need just 1 run to win, with 1 wicket left
Bob holds onto his hat, the tension is unbelievable A reminder of the tightness of the game
Here comes the last delivery of the game. Its to James Kirtley........
But James Kirtley is clean bowled, and Sussex don't get the run they need! Nobody can quite believe it. What an exciting end, as Sussex get a draw!
