MINOR CELEBRITY WORLD TOUR

FRIDAY 3rd JUNE 2005

The final day of the tour was always going to be a sad one, as it was time to say goodbye to Nico, Carlos and the other coaches who had shared their wisdom throughout the week. It was a light session, ending in a long game. Unfortunately, Alex Simpson managed to 'shotgun' the top goal, which was the one devoid of mud, meaning McCarthy ended up throwing himself around in the end that had been newly watered. This wouldn't have been a problem, but he was wearing a white t-shirt. By the end, it was a rather brown t-shirt. After the session, it was time for the presentation of awards, where each player got a certificate and pin badge. During the week there was the opportunity to hand in items for signing by the Valencia players, so a piece of paper was handed in by McCarthy. This was duly signed by Valencia legends such as Pablo Aimar, Vicente and Canizares. After receiving the certificates in the awards ceremony, most people dispersed back to the hotel. Burgess Hills Minor Celebrity saw a window of opportunity though, as people were gathering waiting for the Spain players again. Yesterday, McCarthy had missed Casillas, but not today! Oh no, he whipped out his £30 Adidas Fingersave Goalkeeper Gloves, and when Casillas came past, he signed one glove. The other was signed by Spain number 2 Jose Raina, who has kept as many clean sheets in Spain as Peter Cech, and is reportedly a target for both Manchester United and Liverpool.

After the final training session, it was back to the hotel, pack up and leave. The plane was delayed by 30 minutes, but McCarthy was returned safely to Gatwick, despite conversations between himself and Kieran about the prospect of the engine falling off. This appeared to make a number of fellow passengers uncomftable, but the journey passed without incident. McCarthy Towers was reached at 8pm British Summer Time, and it left McCarthy with a Friday evening to reflect on what was an eventful week
